The Heart Behind Axel’s Army

Axel was the kind of kid who lit up every room he walked into —
full of imagination, joy, and a love for all things superhero.

Just before his 4th birthday, Axel was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer,
Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma. For over 15 courageous months, he fought with the heart
of a true warrior before spreading his wings and becoming our angel.

He called himself Iron Man — because, just like his hero, he carried a port in his chest.
And in every sense of the word, Axel was a superhero. For each appointment, he dressed up
as a different superhero, proudly powering up with what he called his “superhero power juice” (chemo).
Even in the face of pain, he carried strength, courage,
and joy that inspired everyone around him.

Axel never let anything dim his spirit. Through battles that would break even the strongest adults, he radiated resilience. He was our beacon of light, guiding us through the darkest days with his laughter, his hope, and his unshakable positivity.

His happiest moments were spent surrounded by those he loved — his brothers, mom and dad, cousins, grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends, and even his dogs. Axel’s heart was big and open; he was a true social butterfly. He loved Roblox, YouTube, games, crafts, make-believe adventures, movies, snuggles, traveling, and squirrels. People were drawn to his joy, his imagination, and the way he made everyone around him feel special.

Throughout Axel's fight, the people who surrounded and supported him became known as "Axel's Army" — a community built on love, hope, strength, and showing up for one another through the unimaginable.

After losing Axel, I knew I wanted that same love and light to continue reaching other families
facing childhood cancer and loss.
So I turned Axel's Army into an official nonprofit — carrying forward the heart, support, and hope
that surrounded Axel throughout his journey.

Every day, we strive to honor Axel not only through the work we do, but through the way we live — leading with kindness, choosing joy when we can, and loving others the way he loved so effortlessly.

His story is the reason we began. His heart is the reason we continue.
